» A Little bit about the website… |
BCFishingreports.com wants to thank everyone who has contributed to BCFR over the years, without member participation, this site would not be what it is. As you may already know this website is one of the only truly FREE fishing forums for BC on the World Wide Web! BCFR was created with the intention of bringing awareness to our resources, and to promote ethical and responsible fishing practices, so that everyone can enjoy them. BCFR is a venue to allow great people like you to share in the enjoyment we all get from fishing our beautiful and plentiful waters.
There are some key advantages and rewards on BCFR that everyone who visits this site should know about, various fishing articles, BC Sport Fish identification pictures, links to other great sites, a private messaging service, your own photo gallery, the 100 post club, guide and tackle shop reports and special vendor advertisements to name a few. Those are just some of the things you'll find here as regular member.
As a visitor to this site, without registering, you have what's called "Guest Status", you can view a few different sections within the site but won't be able to reply to posts, registered users will have access to more sections of the site and can post replies and start topics of their own. Just keep in mind the entire forum has many different sections that are only viewable by all members with 20 or more posts, so there's so much more to see...sign up and get into the discussions!
It's FREE, absolutely no fees, no catch, except for more fish and some great topics on fishing...
There is a graduated system of great features available on BCFR.
- Once you reach 20 posts, you will then have a whole new world of sections with fishing reports from all over the province, and even from around the world! You will be able to view daily updated fishing reports for Steelhead, Salmon, Trout, Sturgeon and many more species of fish on various lakes, rivers and streams!!!
- At 100 posts, the Contributing Members Forum section will show up on your screen, and you will have access to Great Fishing Video’s with clips of anglers battling fish, techniques and much more. You will also have access and posting rights in sections with more great photo’s, “Members Discussion”, and even more on top of that!
This is not designed so as to exclude people from a section, but more to encourage people to include themselves in the forum as a whole. We hope this will increase the amount of positive contributions and loyal members to the site, while also increasing participation without just increasing the number of redundant posts.
Thus we encourage posting not just to get post counts up, but to increase quality participation. We will go through and delete posts if we feel someone is posting the typical "nice post dude!" or “I agree”, just so they can reach member status or view fishing reports…
We have developed this graduated system through a variety changes to the forum over the years. Well, it seems some of the changes we've made here at BCFR have been working. We have a great variety of people from around the world visiting this site daily, and consider ourselves a friendly and open, conservation minded fishing community.
Another reason we feel encouraging people to participate is due to the responsibility we must take as a fishing website to promote ethical and responsible angling. Before the advent of fishing forums such as this one, most anglers went to their local shop, a guide or an experienced friend for fishing information. They may have learned new techniques or secret spots from these sources and likely were getting information from people with the experience and the vested interest in the resource to promote responsible fishing.
Now, websites abound, with information on anything fishing related that you could imagine...but this information is unfiltered. Often bad habits, techniques, and abuse of fragile systems can arise when the information isn't presented in a way that has our resource as the number one priority...
Thus BCFR strongly feels that it has a responsibility to ensure the right information is getting out there to promote ethical and responsible angling. We want anglers to have the knowledge and understanding necessary to make sound and responsible decisions on how, when, where and why they fish. Allowing ignorance of the facts to persist in our fisheries will only exacerbate the growing problems regarding how anglers treat the resource. Thus we actively pursue honest informed discussion on all issues, encouraging participation, because often that is when the information sinks in best.
We think you’ll find the people who visit this website very amicable, open minded and genuinely excited to share in the your fishing experiences. Soon you just might find yourself making some new friends and participating in the forums on a regular basis. The post counts are up, and more people are contributing and participating in the forum everyday, so Welcome Aboard!
When registering, we encourage everyone to fill out their profile as it this not an anonymous forum! Once you register on the forum using your email address, filled out your Profile information, and are no longer just a guest, even before you make a post, you will be able to view a section called "Forum Updates"...this section contains all the recent info on our great site, including BCFR Posting Guidelines. Please have a look at it once you register.
Once you've done so, please feel free to introduce yourself to in the Introductions section, take a few minutes to tell us something about yourself!
We Hope you will enjoy the site and welcome you aboard!

Being an Observant Angler - By Kevin Raffle
Observation is key if you want to have lasting success hooking trout on any lake. To take it a step further, being observant is the most important tip there is to improving your success rate of hook ups on any still water. What ever events that unfold above the waters surface will often dictate what goes on beneath it. By not being observant to various activity around you can, and often does make for a highly uneventful day. However by paying attention to what is happening on around the lake, over the lake, and under the water, will enable you to develop and choose better techniques and make better fly choices that will......

» Roche Lake Fishout June 4-7, 2009 |
The 2009 edition of the "Meet the members stillwater weekend" will be June 4-7 at Roche Lake. The lake offers a wide assortment of camping/fishing opportunities as well as easy access from everywhere. It has a good history of success at that time of the year, and should be ice free and turned over by early June, giving us some good opportunities....It has some BIG fish!!.......This fall a couple of fish over 10lbs. were caught so there are some lunkers in there.
There are 7 smaller lakes within 4 miles of Roche, and some have rainbows, and others have some very large Brook trout. There are camping facilities (forestry sites at most of them) They are 4x4 accessible. Roche can be accessed by regular vehicle,(with care) and I know some members will go early to secure some good camp areas. Even if we are not at the same spot, we can always have a social gathering in the evening or on the lake.
Mark your calendars NOW and request your time off for maybe an extra day for the weekend. Officially, we will be there for the three days, and signage will be put up to guide you to the BCFR camp....I will be arranging some sponsorship in the form of food/drink for one of the evenings.Hamburgers/hot dogs etc.) Perhaps some of you could do the same?
THIS WILL NOT BE A DERBY!! This will be a family gathering. Bring along anyone who wants to get away for the weekend.........I will update in the New Year with a list of all interested members and put together a schedule of events, etc. for the weekend..I am hoping to have a casting clinic as well as a tying clinic as part of the weekend as well as some trolling advice for the the gear guys & gals.
If you would like to attend this function you will need to join the Roche Lake Social Group, click here!
